Find Your Calling, And Then Learn Your Craft

Posted December 26th, 2009

Your CallingDuring a networking event I attended, I encountered a gentleman who offered a very insightful piece of advice.  He said...

"Find your calling, and then learn your craft."

This means that one should move forward in pursuing what they love and what they were meant to do even if they are not completely "ready."

PNA & The Global Business Calendar

Posted December 11th, 2009

I recently attended two networking events: The Premier Networking Alliance's Lexus Get Together & The Global Business Calendar's Kick Off Holiday Event.

I learned of PNA from Cliff Fruithandler, my softball buddy.  Cliff is a chiropractor.

When I arrived at the PNA Lexus Networking Event, I was very fortunate to bump into Al Otero.  Al is terrific.  I knew him when he was the Broward Chamber of Commerce's Chairman.  Now he is the chairman of the Global Business Calendar.  Al and I had a wonderful conversation.  He offered me very powerful networking advice and introduced me to several people.  It is vital that anyone interested in being successful at networking speak with Al first!

Here is the beauty of networking:  Al introduced me to Dr. Lina Narbone, a Sunrise Dentist.  Lina is super nice.

Walking around, I met Denise Brody and psychologist.  I then met Robert Masterson, a information systems consultant with Windward Development Services, Inc.

Later, I met two more psycholgists, Dr. Lawrence Levy and Dr. Jose Perez.  They introduced me to Steve McCarthy, who performs mergers & acquisitions with Transworld.

At the end of the event, I saw another gentleman I played softball with--Larry Schwarz, Financial Representative with MetLife.  Finally, I met Nathaly Muller on my way out.  She is an independent distributor for Nu Skin.

Weekend at the Pankey Institute

Posted November 6th, 2009

I had the pleasure of attending a Pankey Institute alumni seminar.  Even though I am not a dentist nor a Pankey graduate, I was able to attend the seminar at a nominal fee.

Initially, I was told I had to pay the full price, even though I was not able to attend all the events and was only interested in the practice management aspects of the seminar.  I was disappointed at their response.  I thought that it would be to their advantage to have me attend and learn more about Pankey.  They would make money from my attendance and educate me to help them in promoting.  The Pankey Institute reconsidered and invited me to come at the reduced rate.

The main reason I went was because I wanted to see a dental consultant that I followed in action.  His name is Kirk Behrendt.  His website www.actdental.com has very interesting articles and You Tube videos.  Kirk did a fabulous job.

Characteristics of a Rainmaker!

Posted July 13th, 2009

The Rainmaker was heralded by American Indians as having magical powers to bring the rain to nourish the crops in order to feed the people.  If there was no rain, the people would weaken, die, or move elsewhere. In the business or legal context, a rainmaker is one known for bringing in revenue to an organization from customers.1

Using a mathematical analogy, a rainmaker is the independent variable and others are the dependent variable. Rainmakers are creators, catalysts, and innovators. Rainmakers acquire business (make it "rain"), while others deliver business (are "umbrellas").

The acquisition of business is much more valuable than the latter, delivering business.2 Alan Weiss lays out 4 Characteristics of a Rainmaker:
