PNA & The Global Business Calendar

Posted December 11th, 2009

I recently attended two networking events: The Premier Networking Alliance's Lexus Get Together & The Global Business Calendar's Kick Off Holiday Event.

I learned of PNA from Cliff Fruithandler, my softball buddy.  Cliff is a chiropractor.

When I arrived at the PNA Lexus Networking Event, I was very fortunate to bump into Al Otero.  Al is terrific.  I knew him when he was the Broward Chamber of Commerce's Chairman.  Now he is the chairman of the Global Business Calendar.  Al and I had a wonderful conversation.  He offered me very powerful networking advice and introduced me to several people.  It is vital that anyone interested in being successful at networking speak with Al first!

Here is the beauty of networking:  Al introduced me to Dr. Lina Narbone, a Sunrise Dentist.  Lina is super nice.

Walking around, I met Denise Brody and psychologist.  I then met Robert Masterson, a information systems consultant with Windward Development Services, Inc.

Later, I met two more psycholgists, Dr. Lawrence Levy and Dr. Jose Perez.  They introduced me to Steve McCarthy, who performs mergers & acquisitions with Transworld.

At the end of the event, I saw another gentleman I played softball with--Larry Schwarz, Financial Representative with MetLife.  Finally, I met Nathaly Muller on my way out.  She is an independent distributor for Nu Skin.

Tony Sona at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale

Posted November 15th, 2009

Tony Sona strikes again! I had the pleasure of recording Tony perform at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale. This time, however, the performance was a solo act.  It was just Tony and the Steinway piano... mano a mano.

The Museum of Art is a rather large place, but Tony's act reverberated throughout the building!

Jazz In The Rain: Tony Sona Kickoff Event

Posted November 8th, 2009

My client, Tony Sona (Jazz performer extraordinaire), overwhelmed Carraba's in Boca Raton with fan attendance and energy.  Carrabba's had to turn people away because it could not accommodate Tony.  Gail, Tony's manager and partner, did a wonderful job inviting their fanbase.  In addition, many strangers delighted in Tony's music and subsequently became fans.

Because of the success of the event, Carrabba's has invited Tony to perform there every month indefinitely.  This is only the beginning.  Tony is becoming a household name in Jazz within the South Florida!

Take a look at the video I compiled that shows Tony's trio performing at a packed house!

Weekend at the Pankey Institute

Posted November 6th, 2009

I had the pleasure of attending a Pankey Institute alumni seminar.  Even though I am not a dentist nor a Pankey graduate, I was able to attend the seminar at a nominal fee.

Initially, I was told I had to pay the full price, even though I was not able to attend all the events and was only interested in the practice management aspects of the seminar.  I was disappointed at their response.  I thought that it would be to their advantage to have me attend and learn more about Pankey.  They would make money from my attendance and educate me to help them in promoting.  The Pankey Institute reconsidered and invited me to come at the reduced rate.

The main reason I went was because I wanted to see a dental consultant that I followed in action.  His name is Kirk Behrendt.  His website www.actdental.com has very interesting articles and You Tube videos.  Kirk did a fabulous job.

Time To Get A Photographer

Posted September 29th, 2009

Often times, we want to save money by doing things ourselves.  We may put together our own website, take our own pictures, or even do some video work.  However, the risk is that you end up looking like an amateur.

We suggested to one of our clients, Tony Sona, to get a professional photographer.  He gladly accepted our advice.

Let's take a look at the before and after pictures:

Business Email Etiquette

Posted July 22nd, 2009

business-email-etiquette-5Business email etiquette is essential in today's fast paced computer age. A great deal of communication, whether it be between an employee and a client, or employee-to-employee, is done via email. It is an effective way to have a conversation without having to take time out of the day to schedule a conference call, and it is also a means of having a documented conversation. This way, one can always refer back to the paper trail of what was said in the conversation.

It is also convenient for many business people who are always on-the-go because most cell phones have an email function. Now, people can simply go online with their phone to check their emails, and even post blogs and updates on their social networks.

Unfortunately, with the rapid growth of these social networks like Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, people are quickly becoming accustomed to writing the same way that they would write on these websites, in an email. Slang, abbreviated words, overuse of inappropriate punctuation, and symbols, are only a few of the common misuses that people are committing in a business email.

One must remember that even though email seems more casual than a formal meeting or conversation, it is still work related and should be viewed in the same way. It will always make one seem more professional to have a well tailored and grammatically correct email. The email should be no different for work, then if you were composing a formal business letter.

Here are some helpful tips and points of what to-do, and what not-to-do when one composes a business email:

Dynamic v. Conventional Websites

Posted July 20th, 2009

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialize correctly.

The role of websites have changed over time.  Initially, websites were just online brochures created by a web designer once without client interaction.

Now, SUCCESSFUL (those that create more revenue) websites embody the following:

  • Extension of business to client
  • Ongoing content creation
  • Compliment to other forms of marketing
  • Integration of Multimedia
  • Interactive

Characteristics of a Rainmaker!

Posted July 13th, 2009

The Rainmaker was heralded by American Indians as having magical powers to bring the rain to nourish the crops in order to feed the people.  If there was no rain, the people would weaken, die, or move elsewhere. In the business or legal context, a rainmaker is one known for bringing in revenue to an organization from customers.1

Using a mathematical analogy, a rainmaker is the independent variable and others are the dependent variable. Rainmakers are creators, catalysts, and innovators. Rainmakers acquire business (make it "rain"), while others deliver business (are "umbrellas").

The acquisition of business is much more valuable than the latter, delivering business.2 Alan Weiss lays out 4 Characteristics of a Rainmaker:
